This small project was an exploration into using a 3D-based character design workflow. I decided to combine the Venetian carnival aesthetics with a spec ops style functionality. The process began in Photoshop/Krita where I sketched up initial thumbnails to take forward and then into blender to build up a 3D base. Using parenting and grouping I was able to create a "Calamari" rig to pose the characters and then correct and overpaint in photoshop. One I had the sketch and design direction, Each character in this set (Besides Vonskrieger) took under 8 hours to fully block out and paint over.
